Featured in Eurogamer’s Skyblivion Video
A quick bit of fun news: The Super 1-1 Challenge was featured in a new Eurogamer video about fan projects and modding culture!
The video mostly covers the Skyblivion remake project, but also touches on the wider topic of hobby game development, including a short mention of this level and why I built it!
For those who found this project through the video (hello!), the Super 1-1 Challenge was made for a month-long game jam that challenged developers to remake a classic game level in their own style. I took level 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. and rebuilt it as a first-person experiment - essentially part platformer, part retro shooter. It was mostly an excuse to explore what a Mario 3D Land-style world might feel like from a completely different perspective. It’s been really nice to see people still discovering and playing this over time. What started as a quick jam experiment ended up being one of my most shared side projects, so getting a small feature in a video like this feels super rewarding.
Thanks again to everyone who has played, left a comment, or shared the project. I didn’t expect this small experiment to travel as far (and for as long) as it has!
